CHARM's Project Management Unit (PMU) welcomes IUCN's Dr. Janaka de Silva and SIDA's Dr. Tim Greenhow for a consultative meeting today. Representing CHARM, Mr. Damrong Silpachai, Policy-Institutional Specialist, Mr. Thewan Thanamalarat, MCS Cooordinator, and Ms.Punnee Sinsupan, Liaison Officer gave information on CHARM's lessons learned during its 5-year intervention at the community, Tambon, and provincial levels in Southern Thailand. In assisting the "Mangrove for the Future--MFF" project, Dr. Greenhow has been on the mission for assisting IUCN in the formulation of activities for MFF. "The CHARM's lessons learned would be valuable inputs to MFF, particularly the ideas on how demonstration sites can be selected, what to demonstrate, and how lessons learned can be communicated.
As a regional conservation project, MFF will facilitate information exchange not only at the national and sub-national levels, but also among Indian Ocean rim countries in Asia and Africa. Networking as the CHARM project has experienced with the Andaman Triangle Network, and the recent National Dialogue on coastal resource management, will be valuable inputs to MFF to emulate and to build further on them.

This Project is scheduled to close on 24 November 2007. After 5 productive years that CHARM has devoted to the introduction of the coastal resource co-management in Bandon Bay and Phang Nga Bay in southern Thailand, we have a good collection of field experiences and lessons learned from the cooperation with our partners in the field and with the central administration in Bangkok.
CHARM held the End-of-Project Workshop 22-24 August 2007 in Krabi province where some 270 people attended. Its achievements and lessons learned will be reported in the Workshop proceedings to be made available by mid-October.
